Julia Fiona Roberts is the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus, and Walter Grady Roberts. She was born on 28 October 1967 in Atlanta. The fourth generation of the Roberts generation that has lived in Atlanta that began with her great-grandfather, a farmer John Pendleton Roberts. She was inspired by her father's love in theater from a young stage. He was a part of the Emory University campus in 1952 and in other productions around Atlanta. He joined the Air Force. He was stationed at Biloxi in Mississippi acted in the production of Betty Lou Bredemus. The two married in 1955 and the couple's first child Eric Anthony was born in 1956. Walter and his wife left the military in 1957, after which they began enrolment with Walter at Tulane University. The family relocated in 1960 into Decatur Georgia where Walter began working for Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. Walter and Betty Lou started production in 1964 for the local Saturday morning children's TV show Bum Bum and His Buddies that they funded by themselves. They also founded the Actors and Writers Workshop in the year 1964, and it was in operation for six years. They also had Lelisa Billingsley (also referred to as Lisa) and Julia (also called Julie) in this time.
