April Lockhart

April Lockhart, born in 1995 on the 4th of July. She began lessons on piano and guitar at age seven. The passion for writing songs was ignited. In the seventh grade April started taking piano and guitar lessons. This ignited her interest in writing songs. In her 14th year April spent a lot of her day creating and playing with songs. Then she began to take excursions to write with her father, who lived in NY as well as LA. April included other subjects in her hit song, Take my Hand. These topics were meant for the friends of hers who struggled with issues such as peer pressure issues or even teenage suicide ideas. Lockhart also enjoys an increasing fan base as a lifestyle blogger and works for popular clean beauty company Ilia. Lockhart was born with no left hand and that is part of who she is--but that's not the entire story. Lockhart's profile on Instagram doesn't hide her disability but doesn't focus solely on it. What message is it sending? The message? We are all multifaceted, and that our identities and physical selves are not all that they appear. Lockhart tells Lockhart via video "I am not convinced that my physical appearance is what defines my character. It's not my intention to influence disabilities because I've got so much more to offer." This doesn't influence my day-to-day life. I conduct the same way as I always do and have developed different ways of adapting. But it's also a part of me so I think it's important to talk about. Lockhart, a real motivation for self-acceptance generally, is on a long process to attain this. She admits that she has gone through phases where she was uncomfortable dressing in certain styles that showed her arms. Today, she wears what she's comfortable in and post images of her outfits to social networks with a sense of pride. Self-love she said is a process. "I believe that you will ever be in that place," she said. That's true of everyone regardless of how much they are afraid. People you associate yourself with that truly understand you, and can see inside your soul are the best people to remind you of what you're worrying about.
